LANGUAGE & CULTURE

We are currently negotiating a Language & Culture agreement and it will have two components: Language & Culture and Cultural Property. Under these headings will be items that are important to the Gitxsan for retention and strengthening of our culture through increasing the numbers of fluent speakers in each of the Gitxsan Wilps. The agreement will represent our essence as Gitxsan and the principles are based on the Gitxsan Huwilp model of transmission of cultural knowledge. We are targeting December 11, 2002 to sign off on this document.
